Why stopping smoking can be harder than it sounds
Smoking and vaping can become much more than a nicotine habit. You may already know exactly why you want to stop. You may have tried before, cut down, used nicotine replacement, switched to vaping or simply decided that this time you would do it through willpower.
But smoking and vaping isn't always just about nicotine. Over time, it can become woven into routines, emotions, thoughts and automatic responses - the cigarette with your coffee, the one after a meal, the one when you're stressed, bored, socialising or simply need a break.
That's why knowing that you want to stop doesn't always make stopping feel straightforward. Your conscious decision and your automatic habits can pull in different directions.
Smoking cessation hypnotherapy gives us an opportunity to work with those deeper patterns, rather than relying on willpower alone.
How smoking cessation hypnotherapy works
We work with the whole pattern, not just the cigarette or vape.Smoking can become an automatic sequence of thoughts, feelings and behaviours. The aim of our work is to understand that pattern and help you experience it differently.
During your session, we'll explore what smoking has come to represent for you, when you tend to reach for a cigarette and what you expect it to give you. We'll then use hypnotherapy to work with those associations and rehearse your experience of being a non-smoker.
This isn't about frightening you, taking away your choice or asking you to fight cravings through willpower. It's about helping your mind become comfortable with the idea that smoking is no longer something you need to do.
BREAK THE AUTOMATIC PATTERN
Separate smoking from the routines, situations and cues that have become associated with it.
CHANGE THE ASSOCIATION
Explore the role smoking has played and develop a different relationship with the thoughts and feelings that have kept the habit going.
MOVE FORWARD AS A NON-SMOKER
Build a clearer sense of yourself beyond smoking and feel more confident about maintaining the change.
What can keep smoking going?
Sometimes the habit has become part of how you move through the day.AUTOMATIC ROUTINES
The cigarette or vape with your morning coffee, after a meal, on the way to work or at the end of a long day can become so familiar that you reach for it almost without thinking.
THE ROLE SMOKING PLAYS
For some people, smoking has become a way to pause, regulate emotions, take a break, feel more confident socially or create a moment of their own.
TRIGGERS AND ASSOCIATIONS
Stress, boredom, alcohol, social situations or particular places can become closely linked with smoking, creating an urge before you've consciously decided you want a smoke.
THE EXPECTATION OF CRAVING
Sometimes the anticipation of wanting a cigarette or vape becomes part of the habit itself - particularly if you've spent years believing that stopping will be difficult.
Your two-hour session
Focused, personalised work - without the need for multiple appointments. The session lasts around two hours, giving us time to properly understand your relationship with smoking and work through the patterns that have developed around it. There's no need to spread the work across multiple appointments simply because that's how some approaches are structured. It’s far more effective to do this in one sitting.
We'll spend time understanding your smoking history, what you want to change and the situations or associations that may have kept the habit going. The hypnotherapy work is then tailored around you, your reasons for stopping and the way smoking has become part of your life.
Most people don't need ongoing sessions after this. However, if you'd like some additional support afterwards, an optional one-hour follow-up is available.
FREE FROM THE HABIT
Move away from the feeling that smoking has a hold over your day, your routines or your choices.
What Can Change?
Imagine waking up one day and simply not being a smoker.BREAK THE AUTOMATIC CYCLE
Separate smoking from the situations and habits that have become connected to it, so reaching for a vape or cigarette no longer feels like the automatic response.
TRUST YOUR DECISION
Feel more confident in your decision to stop and in your ability to move forward without constantly negotiating with yourself about smoking.
Why this is a focused two-hour session
Time to understand the habit. Time to change the pattern. Time to move forward. This isn't a quick script or a one-size-fits-all hypnosis session. The two hours give us space to understand your smoking history, the role smoking plays in your life and the patterns that have kept you smoking.
We'll spend time talking before the hypnotherapy begins, so the work is genuinely personalised to you. The hypnosis itself is then tailored around what we've discovered, helping you work with the automatic associations, routines and expectations that have become connected with smoking.
You're also not paying for a fixed number of appointments. Most people don't need ongoing sessions after their initial appointment, while an optional one-hour follow-up is available if you feel you'd benefit from additional support.
TIME TO UNDERSTAND
Your smoking history, habits, triggers and the role smoking has come to play.
PERSONALISED HYPNOTHERAPY
Therapeutic work shaped around you rather than a generic script.

Common questions about smoking cessation hypnotherapy
-
Hypnotherapy can be a useful approach for people who want to stop smoking, particularly when smoking has become connected with automatic routines, triggers and expectations around cravings. The work focuses on your individual relationship with smoking and helping you develop a different response to those patterns.
-
For many people, the initial two-hour session is all they need, which is why I don't automatically book you in for a series of appointments. Everyone responds differently, though, and if you'd like additional support afterwards, an optional one-hour follow-up is available.
-
That's very common. Previous attempts don't mean you can't stop; they can actually give us useful information about what tends to trigger you and what has made stopping difficult in the past. We'll look at your individual pattern rather than treating your previous attempts as failures.
-
Yes. The length or amount of time you've smoked doesn't automatically mean hypnotherapy isn't suitable. Whether you've smoked for a few years or for decades, we'll focus on your individual relationship with smoking and the patterns that keep it going.
-
Having a thought or urge to smoke doesn't mean you've failed or that the session hasn't worked. We'll talk about what to expect and how to respond if an urge arises, while focusing on the reasons you want to stop and the new patterns you're developing. If you feel you'd benefit from further support afterwards, an optional one-hour follow-up is available.
